Academy North: Group Program
Social Skills Groups

Social Skills Groups

Our philosophy
  • A child's emotional, physical, and social development can be enhanced through cooperative, non-competitive activities.
  • Through group discussion and play in a clinically structured environment, a youngster can build self-esteem, improve the ability to initiate and maintain interactions with peers, and improve social skills.
  • Activity-based groups help children solve problems, negotiate, and resolve conflicts.
Social Skills Groups: A Description . . .
  • Children ages 5 to 15
  • Group size is between 3 - 8 children per group
  • Groups meet weekly for 70 minutes (shorter for young children)
  • Children of similar age, compatible style, and level of functioning are placed together
  • Groups are led by clinicians (Doctoral and Masters level). Some are co-led by Masters-level interns
